Our collection is based at Bo’ness, on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, sixteen miles west of Edinburgh. The picture above shows some of our star railway vehicles. We also have a significant object and archive collection, illustrating the history of railways in Scotland, a history which of course is still being written.
Bo’ness is the terminus of the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway, where the collection is demonstrated in use. Railway heritage items not currently operating are displayed in the Scottish Railway Exhibition, beside Bo'ness Station. Some items are kept in buildings which do not have public access - we can arrange special access on request.
This website presents the SRPS railway collection, and will take you into the world of Scottish railways. Details of the website editor and authors are available on the About this Site page. We welcome constructive comments, corrections and additional information. Please use the Feedback Form.
EWS has donated prototype Merry-Go-Round Hopper Wagon No.350001 to SRPS for display at Bo'ness.
Moveright International delivered it by road on Monday 30th June.
No.350001 has been overhauled and repainted by EWS at Worksop Depot.
It may now be restored to original condition, as B350001, but to do this we need a good picture of an example
of this type of wagon in its original finish.
If you have a photograph which shows a clear side view, please contact us.
Hopper wagons such as this first carried coal from colliery to power station in 1964,
and about a thousand remain in daily traffic. They are a part of an efficient
coal transfer system which replaced many thousands of traditional wagons,
eliminated large marshalling yards and much tedious shunting. Hence this is a very significant design
which has underpinned the economic life of the nation for 44 years.

Our Inter-City DMU Project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund
and by a public appeal, is steadily restoring the unit to display condition and to full working order.
To demonstrate how much has been achieved, the DMU operated a special train for invited guests on Friday 18th July 2008,
its first run as a 3-car set for many years. It was given a royal send off from Bo'ness by Eilidh Thomson,
Queen of the Bo'ness Childrens' Fair Festival.
On the next day, the set operated the 16:15 service train, and then carried volunteers and members of the Swindon Diesel Preservation Society over the entire length of the B&KR line to Bo'ness Junction, pausing for a group photograph at the Avon Viaduct.
