This Type 18 trailer was used by British Railways at Crianlarich, where the West Highland Railway crossed over the Callander & Oban Railway. It is fitted with longitudinal wooden seats. Towed by a powered but otherwise similar trolley (also at Bo'ness), it could be used to carry track workers and equipment over some of the remoter parts of these railways. The units would also provide necessary shelter from Highland weather.
The builders, Wickhams, specialised in light rail vehicles, for a world wide market.
This vehicle (Works No.6050, Wickham's Order No.43131) was restored to service condition at Anniesland College, Glasgow, between 1998 and 2000 under the auspices of a European Community Social Fund scheme. It is currently resting in the Signalling display area of the Scottish Railway Exhibition.
