14 ton Tank Wagon, Naval Store No.161

14 ton Tank Wagon, Naval Store No.161

Built 1918 by Hurst Nelson, Motherwell.
SRPS Core Collection, on display, 'Naval Store' black livery.

Formerly used at Lathalmond Naval Store, Fife. The tank incorporates heating coils, necessary to warm the heavy fuel oil that the Navy used for bunkering its ships. The steel frames and oil axle boxes show developments which made tank wagons fit for high speed use on main line railways.
