This wagon was designed to carry the then new 45ft rails, the previous standard length having been 30ft. (Jointed track now comes in 60ft lengths.) It was also available for general traffic - girders, timber etc., and is mounted on Fox's Patent bogies. It was sold out of main line service to Babcock & Wilcox Ltd., Renfrew, for their internal works traffic.
