British Railways Mk.1 Brake Second Class Open (BSO) coach No.9237

British Railways Mk.1 Brake Second Class Open coach No.9237
At Bo'ness station, 5 June 2007. Photo SRPS.

Core Collection. Acquired 1996. In branch service. Green and cream livery.
Built 1956, BR Doncaster. Diagram 183.

This coach retains its original flush windows. It was rebuilt in the early 1980s to install a "Micro-Buffet", when its running number was changed to 9016. This alteration could be re-instated so as to represent the type as used on the West Highland line. The appropriate livery in this condition would be blue/grey.

The brake van "cage" of this coach has been modified at Bo'ness, so that wheelchairs can be loaded via the van double doors, and can then access the adjacent coach through the corridor connection (which is wider than a standard coach door). TSO No.4422 has been modified to remove the first seating bay, to make an open space, and this coach normally runs with 9237.
