This wagon was acquired from the Ministry of Defence Inchterf gun barrel proving firing range, near to Kirkintilloch, on closure in 1992. It is one of a batch of 40 wagons built by the L&YR and described as '35 ton Machinery Trolleys' This kind of wagon could conveniently carry army tanks (hence the name 'Rectank') which could be end loaded onto a train of similar wagons. The name became a fixed railway usage for low platform machinery wagons.
